Our latest project, The Wylding Woods, is a fully immersive, theatrical experience for children, involving puppetry, storytelling, and dynamic set design that will launch in the spring of 2025.
Set DESIGNER
We are seeking a creative and detail-oriented Set Designer with experience in designing immersive environments specifically for children's entertainment. The ideal candidate will collaborate with the creative team to conceptualize, design, and implement sets that captivate and engage young audiences. You will help create environments that are not only visually compelling but also interactive and child-friendly, allowing kids to explore and interact within a world that feels both magical and safe.
Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate with director, writer, and production teams to conceptualize and design immersive, interactive environments for children’s theater and experiences.
Develop set designs that align with the vision of the production, enhancing storytelling through innovative use of space, materials, and visual elements.
Create sketches, 3D models, or digital renderings of set designs for presentations and production planning.
Ensure all designs prioritize safety, functionality, and engagement for young audiences.
Work closely with puppet designers, scenic artists, and technical teams to oversee the construction and installation of sets.
Adapt designs based on feedback and budgetary constraints while maintaining the integrity of the experience.
Manage timelines and deliverables to ensure sets are completed on schedule and within budget.
Ensure that sets are durable, safe, and adaptable for multiple performances or installations.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Set Design, Theater Design, Production Design, or a related field.
Experience in set design for children’s theater, immersive experiences, or interactive exhibits.
Proficiency in design software (e.g., SketchUp, AutoCAD, Rhino) and the ability to create 3D renderings.
Strong understanding of child psychology and how environments can influence and inspire learning and creativity in children.
Ability to manage multiple projects, adhere to deadlines, and work within budget constraints.
Familiarity with the practicalities of building and installing sets for live performances or exhibits.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with a creative team.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with puppet-based or interactive performances.
Knowledge of materials and construction techniques suitable for child-friendly, durable, and interactive sets.
A strong portfolio demonstrating past work on immersive or theatrical projects.
